35 (min) WINTER SERIES:
One of the most important Qigong practices for health and longevity is self- massage. During self-massage acupoints are opened, and the body is cleansed and invigorated with new energy. Applying self-massage before a Qigong practice is it like an appetizer before meal, it prepares the body for Qi circulation. When done at the end of a Qi practice it is called "harvesting the qi" and brings the Qi that was generated during practice to the surface of the skin, thus tonifying the Wei Qi field. It’s is also an excellent practice by itself and can be done multiple times a day.
This routine can be done seated in a chair, sitting on the floor or even in bed. In the Winter I like to incorporate this self massage routine at the end of meditation. Also at the end of the practice I will encourage you to lie down and take a nap or in yoga what is called shavasana. So it can be helpful to prepare some blankets near by to keep you warm when you lay down. Enjoy!
