Yin Yoga for Happy Lungs
This deeply nourishing Yin Yoga routine targets the Lung and Large Intestine meridians—the energetic pathways associated with the Metal Element.
Yin Yoga has its roots in Dao Yin Qigong, the ancient practice of guiding and directing Qi through the body. By gently stretching the fascial trains surrounding the meridians, we create space for Qi to flow more freely. Because fascia is a Yin tissue that responds gradually, we hold each posture for approximately three to five minutes. Variations are offered throughout so you can adapt the practice to your body and experience level.
We will open the chest, shoulders, arms and upper back, creating more space for the breath and encouraging the healthy movement of Lung Qi. As we breathe into each posture, we practice receiving what nourishes us and releasing what we no longer need—one of the Metal Elements essential functions.
We will also move through all Five Elements—Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal—to promote the full circulation of Qi through the Generative Cycle. Each element nourishes the next, creating a continuous flow of energy that supports harmony throughout the entire system.
This routine supports the Metal Element on every level:
• Physical: Opens the chest, shoulders and arms while releasing tension along the Lung and Large Intestine meridian pathways.
• Emotional: Helps transform grief, sadness and emotional heaviness into courage, inspiration and acceptance.
• Energetic: Strengthens Lung Qi, deepens the breath and promotes full Qi circulation through the Five Element Generative Cycle.
• Spiritual: Nourishes the Po, the corporeal spirit of the Lungs, cultivating presence, embodied awareness, healthy boundaries and reverence for life.
Slow down, soften and make space for each breath. Through patient, sustained stretches, this practice invites your Qi to circulate freely—cultivating happy Lungs and the clear, refined energy of Metal.
